PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS
(01) SUN + SALT
Salt naturally attracts water. As it sits on the hair, it draws moisture away from the hair fibre, leaving strands feeling dehydrated, rough and more prone to tangling. The more often hair is exposed to salt water without protection, the more moisture it loses, making it feel less smooth and more difficult to manage. UV exposure weakens the hair's protective outer layer while breaking down colour pigments within the hair fibre. The result? Hair that feels drier, looks duller and fades faster throughout summer. Whether your hair is natural or coloured, repeated sun exposure can gradually reduce shine, increase roughness and make strands more vulnerable to damage
(02) SAUNA
It's dry because the sauna is drawing moisture out of the hair fibre. What's actually happening? The high temperatures inside a sauna accelerate moisture evaporation from the hair. While the heat isn't as intense as a straightener, repeated exposure can gradually leave hair feeling drier, rougher and more porous. Over time, dehydrated hair becomes more susceptible to tangles, dullness and breakage, particularly if it's already coloured or chemically treated.
(03) Chlorine
Think chlorine is turning your hair green? It's actually not the chlorine. What's actually happening? Pool water often contains minerals such as copper. Chlorine oxidises these minerals, allowing them to attach to the hair shaft, particularly when the hair is porous, blonde, highlighted or chemically treated. This is what creates the green or greenish-blue tint that many blondes notice after swimming. Chlorine also strips away the hair's natural oils, leaving it drier and more vulnerable to moisture loss.
